I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my cappuccinos and I admit it. I lived in Rome and Catania for years and grew used to genuine Italian brewed espresso and cappuccino. Since returning home I have purchased several mid-range units that performed adequately. But I was never able to achieve the flavor and texture of real Italian cappuccino until I finally decided to upgrade to the Gaggia Classic unit. I like all of the features of the unit but the one that I like best is the one that actually provides the best tasting product...the commercial size filter that hold the coffee grounds. It allows the heated water to soak through a wider area thus producing a better tasting coffee.
I have to admit that it took me a couple of times to get used to the plastic attachment to the frothing wand. I am used to frothing the milk directly from a steel tubing arrangement and had my doubts about the plastic dumbed down attachment on the Gaggia unit. But in reality the unit works surprisingly well and even a novice can froth milk with ease using the attachment.
All of my friends have commented on the richer taste of the espresso with the new unit. In fact, most of my friends didn't even know I had purchased a new unit. They thought I had changed my brand of espresso ground coffee.
I would recommend this unit to anyone with no reservations at all. I am completely happy with the unit. By the way....it is built like a tank. I expect to get many years of pleasure from this unit. If you purchase one I am certain that you will not be disappointed.

Heavy duty, fast heating, great quality. Get the separate stand to elevate it so it is easier to slip a container under steamer arm. It is an inch too low otherwise.

I lived in Sicily for years and was accustomed to great espresso and cappuccino. Since returning to the States I have purchased many machines in the $150 to $300 range. Many of them were adequate but none of them met my need for a true quality unit. Then I heard about the Gaggia Classic from a friend. I purchased the machine and I have to admit that is makes the best espresso and cappuccino I have had since I left Sicily. It is fast, easy to use and simple to keep clean. I was a little put off by the frothing attachment (since I had never needed to use one) but after trying it out I decided it was actually a rather nice feature. It really does froth milk very well.
I only have one complaint about the machine. Now every time I want to have a cappuccino I have to make one for my wife. She used to have one once in a while with the old machines but now she loves the flavor and constantly keeps her eye on me when she sees me near the machine.
You really do not have to be an expert to get great product from this unit. I recommend it to anyone who really loves espresso. Spend the extra money and get a really great unit....it will be worth it in the long run.

I appreciate the stainless steel and sturdy quality. I still need a lot more practice to make it like the pros do, but it's fun working with the Gaggia Classic. So far I haven't done a real cleaning of the machine so I am hoping it will be easy to take apart AND put back together again. I wish larger cups could fit under the machine and also a frother that fit better without moving the machine to the end of the counter. So far think it's great.

Easier to use than I expected. Makes great expresso depending on quality of beans and perfecting of grind. Will be hard for me to buy expresso anywhere again. Love it!
